Triund (2,828m) is a 9 km trail to an open ridge meadow with an unobstructed face-to-face view of the main Dhauladhar wall. The sunrise from Triund is among the finest in Himachal.
Bhagsu Nag: 3 km from McLeod Ganj; a 30m waterfall, ancient Shiva temple, and the dramatically positioned Shiva Cafe.
Kangra Fort (18 km before Dharamshala) is one of the oldest in the foothills, built on a sheer rock spur. The Brajeshwari Mata temple in Kangra town is a major Shakti Peetha.
Masrur Rock Temples: 40 km away; an 8th-century complex carved from a single sandstone ridge (the 'Ellora of the Himalayas').
The HPCA Cricket Stadium is the highest international ground in India, with the snow-white Dhauladhar wall rising directly behind the sight screen.
Norbulingka Institute: 7 km away; a Tibetan arts and culture centre with beautiful gardens modelled on the summer palace in Lhasa.
The drive crosses the full Kangra valley — from the Punjab plains past the ancient Kangra fort, up into the Dhauladhar foothills to one of the most remarkable towns in India.
Pickup from Railway Station, Bus Stand, or hotel. Most visitors arrive on overnight trains from Delhi. A 7-8 AM departure is ideal, arriving at McLeod Ganj by 10:30 AM before tourist traffic builds on the switchbacks.
A 45-minute stop that most visitors drive past but shouldn't. The fort occupies a dramatic defensible spur, giving a complete view of the Kangra valley and Dhauladhar above.
The last reliable ATMs and fuel before McLeod Ganj (where ATMs frequently run out during peak season). The HPCA Cricket Stadium is visible from the lower town road.
The 9 km winding switchback road climbs 500 metres. At a specific corner, the full Dhauladhar wall suddenly appears directly in front of the car — a breathtaking scale. Driver knows to slow down here.
Arrive at the Tibetan quarter. The driver knows every hotel location in the narrow, confusing lanes and will take you directly to the door of your guesthouse.

The 9 km switchback road becomes congested on weekend afternoons. A 20-min drive can take 75 mins. Our drivers know the timing windows: a 7-9 AM arrival avoids congestion completely.
McLeod's lanes are narrow, one-way, and confusing. Hotels on Bhagsu or Jogibara Road aren't all approachable from the main square. We know every guesthouse location and approach lane. You won't get lost.
During public teachings (like Losar), McLeod Ganj is extremely congested. Our drivers monitor the schedule and will set realistic expectations about arrival timing and road conditions before departure.

Most travellers should stay in McLeod Ganj (Upper Dharamshala) for the Tibetan character, proximity to the temple, cafes, and treks. Lower Dharamshala is functional and better suited if you're attending a cricket match or need budget options.

The Dalai Lama's temple complex is open to all faiths. Dress modestly (covered shoulders/knees), remove shoes at entrance. Photography permitted in courtyard but not inside the main prayer hall. Do not approach the private residence.
ATMs: Carry cash from Lower Dharamshala; McLeod ATMs frequently run out. Mobile: Jio/Airtel work well in town but drop on the Triund trail. Altitude: McLeod is 1,970m (no acclimatisation needed). Triund is 2,828m.
